OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT

The Department of Psychiatry is a 24 bedded indoor and an outdoor facility of the Ayub Teaching institute. It is covering a vast catchment area starting from Hassanabdal and extending up to Gilgit Baltistan and Galyaat.

 It is the only available post graduate teaching Psychiatric facility in this whole area providing indoors and out-door Psychiatric facilities round the clock to all kind of Psychiatric patients.

 The Department is run by two fully qualified Consultants and additional trained staff comprising of a Junior Registrar, Three Medical officers, two post-graduate FCPS trainees and Five House Officers.

Non-Medical staff includes two clinical Psychologists, a Speech Therapist, a Social worker, an ECT technician, EEG Technician and a Psychiatric technician.

SERVICES AVAILABLE

  • Indoor facilities

    Comprising 25 beds for patients presenting with psychiatric problems, drug addictions and complicated liaison cases.

  • Outdoor clinics

    Outdoor clinics thrice weekly run by qualified Specialists

  • Electroencephalogram

    EEG to aid in the diagnosis of Epilepsies and other neurological Disorders

  • Social worker

    Social worker for the social interventions and to assist with financial issues of chronic debilitating Neuropsychiatric disorders.

  • Psychology Services

    Everyday of the week comprising of two qualified clinical Psychologists.

  • Electroconvulsive Therapy

    Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for patients needing this potentially lifesaving Treatment.

  • Speech Therapy services

    Speech Therapy services for children and Adults with Speech related disorders. Currently one Speech therapist in post and one waiting to be appointed.
